But for this first one, it’ll just be me. [OOC: This was an idea I just had, and I think it could be pretty fun! If people like it, we can have a wider panel of judges in the future, maybe composed of past winners or something. Humor can be a touchy subject though, so you might want to brush up on the rules if you think something you’re submitting might be too edgy. The image must be handmade, either via a meme generator website or an image editor. This obviously isn’t referring to the joke, as practically every joke has already been made. If a meme is found to be guilty of any of these things, that contestant will be eliminated. Don’t not sign up just because you aren’t good at photo editing.Īnd then of course we have the things to avoid.
However, this is the lowest priority criteria, so a generated meme still has a good chance of winning. A meme made by scratch in photoshop or some other photo editor is going to score much better than a meme made on some meme generator website. Memes aren’t just expressions of humor, they are expressions of technological prowess. Take a classic meme format and make it mean something different. Other ways to express originality is to do a format screw. This is harder for the contestants to control, but if I’ve already seen the joke, it’s not going to be as funny. As long as I can see a clear connection between the meme and the theme, you’re good. The themes will usually be pretty vague, so there’s lots of room for error. If a meme doesn’t adhere to the given theme, it will be drastically marked down. Obviously the most important factor of a quality meme. I will give the contestants a theme, and they will have a certain amount of time, usually a week, to create a meme that suits it!
